North East-based children鈥檚 charity, NeoAngels, has received 拢10,639 following a charity fundraising ball, organised by the Yarm Prep School Social Committee (YPSSC).

The cruise-themed event, named, 鈥淭he Captain鈥檚 Ball鈥 saw Yarm鈥檚 Princess Alexandra Auditorium transformed into a 5-star cruise liner for the night, bringing together people from across Teesside and the Tees Valley to raise money for an important cause.

NeoAngels is a charity which supports the special care baby unit at the University Hospital of North Tees and the neonatal unit at The James Cook University Hospital. Both units provide care to hundreds of premature and poorly babies every year and support for their families.

The decision to raise money for NeoAngels was made by Balinder and Jasdeep Ladhar, parents and active members of the YPSSC. The charity holds a special place in their hearts, having provided invaluable assistance and support during their daughter鈥檚 33-day stay in the special care unit following her early arrival.

Bill Sawyer, Head at Yarm Prep School, said 鈥淕ratitude abounds for the incredible support and generosity from parents and local businesses, making the ball鈥檚 live and online auctions resounding successes.

“Learning about the impactful work of the charity, dedicated to supporting families in our community, was truly enlightening. Not only do they offer an array of services for families, including financial and emotional support, they also fundraise to provide much needed equipment for the units.

“We extend a heartfelt thank you to the YPSSC for their outstanding efforts in ensuring the success of the ball, and to all those who contributed in various capacities.鈥

Jodie Jenkins, NeoAngels trustee and neonatal clinical educator at the University Hospital of North Tees, said: 鈥淭he donation from the Yarm Prep School Social Committee is hugely appreciated.

鈥淪uch a generous contribution will allow NeoAngels to continue to support families who have pre-term or poorly babies at both North Tees鈥 special care baby unit and James Cook鈥檚 neonatal unit.

鈥淒onations allow us to continue funding weekly playgroup sessions for babies and their families, provide emotional support in terms of gifts for special occasions, and continue providing vouchers and contributions to the costs of travel and daily hot meals.

鈥淲e are blown away by the generosity shown by YPSCC and support like this enables us to achieve the goals of our charity.鈥

Supporters of the event included: Lucy and Mark Howard, Aspire Technology Solutions, Denplan, J&B Dental Group, Sweden & Martina Dental Implants, and sports professionals Kieran Trippier, Jordan Pickford, Andrew Davies and Ryan Sidebottom.

Special thanks to Ingrid Brough-Williams for graphic design work used to promote the event.
